VORUNAY::

Educational Geometry NFTs

Giving value to NFTs as educational computer graphics animations

   Mission ::

VORUNAY is a project of an Italian based design & engineering studio with the idea of educating the world on basic Computational Geometry principles through NFT animations and simple explanations.

Computational Geometry is essentially a subfield of mathematics & computer science, that deals with algorithm design within computer graphics. In other words, it establishes rules and relations between basic geometrical elements, such as points, curves, surfaces and volumes. As our computational capacity as a civilisation increases, Computational Geometry becomes increasingly applied and is used for graphical software in many industries, like product design and manufacturing, video game design, AR&VR, architecture, interior design - basically anywhere where there is a need for embedding logic within either 2D or 3D geometrical space.

VORUNAY has been created by people with passion for rules within geometry, and we aim to spread the word about this scientific field that merges design & engineering into a beautiful visual tool. Through it, we create some rudimentary yet mesmerizing NFT animations as a vector to reach out to as many people as possible.

Voronoi_37

Where best to start from other than the famous Voronoi diagrams? Our pilot animation.

Voronoi tessellation has a relatively simply logic: it creates a 2D region around a random point, that is closest to that central point instead of any other. Try immagining the points as being exactly in the centre of each polygon. In this case, we keep increasing increasing the number of randomised Voronoi loci from 1 to 37, to give an illusion of squeezing more and more regions into tight space. This principle is equally valid in 3D space as well, but we'll leave that for another animation.

UenV_Veins

Something for the dark theme lovers! An educational animation on U and V parametric space of a surface, and iso-curves in particular (red lines).

Within their parametric definition, surfaces are simply a function (a result) of two parameters. Think of it as a local coordinate system, valid only for that surface, following the curvature of the surface in space. As presented in the animation, what looks like a bird on first sight is actually an isometric view of a 4-edged freeform surface. Each 2 adjacent edges of the surface belong to either U or V axis of the surface. All combinations of U and V therefore explain all points on the surface.

The isometric curves are simply curves where one of these "coordinates" is maintained fixed, resulting in a clear net over the surface once a more direct view is achieved.

The aesthetical side of the animation was addressed by the symbolic bird shape, the animation of the U and V iso-curves reminding of veins carrying blood flow, and a change of perspective representative of flying.
